During this COVID year sculpture artist Walter Pineda completed a mural in the NY campus honoring the spirit of exploration around the world.  Based solely on images, he freehanded a 3D map of the world, with headshots of five explorers - Henry Hudson (the namesake of our school), Zheng He, Amelia Earhart, Matthew Henson, and Juan Ponce de Leon representing the diversity of cultures, races and genders.  Our NY 6th and 7th graders researched Spanish explorers to select Ponce de Leon who best embodied HWIS values.  Explorers were the root of language development around the world!
