HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS), a pioneer in language immersion education is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Founded in 2005 as Bilingual Buds (rebranded as HudsonWay Immersion school in 2014) in the home of founders Sharon Huang and Bill Hicks with a handful of students including their twin 2-year old sons, the school has since expanded to include two tracks: Mandarin and Spanish immersion, two locations: Stirling, NJ and Midtown West, NYC, and three divisions: preschool, elementary and middle school with a total enrollment of over 300 students. The school is unique in that it is the only Mandarin/Spanish immersion school in the tri-state area offering a full immersion model through eighth grade. Students learn all subjects in two languages and develop critical thinking skills needed in today’s globalized world.
Over the years, HudsonWay students were invited to perform with the cast of Mulan at Lincoln Center, gained regional and national recognition in language competitions such as Chinese Bridge, and New York University’s Rock that Movie. Students graduating from HudsonWay are accepted at top tier secondary schools in New York City and New Jersey.
“This milestone gives us an opportunity to take stock of what we have accomplished together as a community and to rededicate ourselves to the continued growth and innovation of the school. Our 20 year journey would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our teachers and staff, and the commitment and support of our families” said founder Sharon Huang.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary, HWIS is planning a series of special discount offers for its students, an alumni event and gala celebration for parents and staff as well as exciting programs like student cooking classes in Mandarin and Spanish, Chinese cultural events this spring, and Hispanic Heritage programs this fall- all open to the public.
