September 15, 2019Are You Preparing Your Child with 21st Century Skills?
September 16, 2019This fall 2019 HWIS will be bringing its 10 years of experience in Spanish immersion education to the NY campus at Midtown West. The program will begin with preschool for ages 3-4 this fall, expanding to kindergarten and Grade 1 for the school year 2020-21.
This program will run parallel to our longstanding Mandarin immersion track with plans to expand through the elementary and middle school years adding a grade each year.
Leading the charge is Spanish Head Teacher Paula Olarte, a veteran of the HWIS NJ campus. Paula is extremely excited to lead this new chapter of HudsonWay Immersion School’s growth in offerings commenting, “I see this new enterprise as a continuation of what I have already been doing for seven years: helping my students to obtain language content fluency and proficiency through exciting, engaging and fun activities. In every class, our learning will include art, math, music, cooking, movement, songs—a lot of hands-on activities through which students acquire vocabulary, knowledge, and skills.”
A native of Colombia, Paula earned a BA in Education & Biology from Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, NJ and was twice nominated for HWIS Teacher of the Year. In her tenure she has developed curriculum and created units of study for both the day school and after school language programs at HWIS. Before teaching at HWIS she served as a Head Teacher at Hola Hoboken Dual Language Charter School.
