Chinese Consul General Visits HudsonWay Immersion School’s NY Campus in Celebration of International Chinese Language Day
May 11, 2024On Saturday, April 27, over 200 families from across New Jersey joined in a free public celebration of United Nations Chinese Language Day hosted by HudsonWay Immersion School in Stirling. This lively event saw the NJ campus teeming with excitement as attendees, including the Vice Consul of the Education Office of the Chinese Consulate, Qin Qilun came to revel in the richness of Chinese language and culture. The event featured a captivating lineup of performances and workshops provided by various cultural and educational institutions.
One of the highlights of the day was the mesmerizing performance of Sichuan Opera face changing, which left the audience spellbound. Using techniques dating back three centuries, this performer interacted with the crowd while switching masks from one to another with instantaneous speed. The dynamic kung fu demonstrations by the Wushu Kungfu Fitness Center drew cheers and applause from all corners, showcasing the rich heritage of Chinese martial arts.
A highlight of the afternoon was the soulful rendition of "Tianbian, Horizon" by a talented sixth-grade student from Pingry School, which left a lasting impression on all who attended. Additionally, HudsonWay students showcased their talents in captivating performances, further highlighting the depth of cultural appreciation fostered by the school. Students also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops exploring calligraphy, shadow puppets, paper-cutting, and kung fu, further immersing themselves in Chinese culture and traditions.
Throughout the event, families indulged in delicious treats from NJ Canton Palace and Gong Cha, savoring the flavors of authentic Chinese cuisine. As they mingled and shared stories, the sense of camaraderie and community spirit was palpable.
