May 11, 2024For the first time HWIS awarded students the Global Seal of Biliteracy, a credential recognized in 41 states by high schools, colleges and employers that celebrates language skills and expands future opportunities for its recipients. Students receive a certificate which is numbered and can be tied into students’ Linked In profiles and put on their resumes. Recipients need to demonstrate a score of 5 or higher on a scale of 1-7 on each of four domains (listening, reading, writing, speaking) on the Avant STAMP 4S, a standardized assessment given to 7th and 8th grade students at HWIS. This demonstrates a functional level of proficiency (also categorized as intermediate-mid on the ACTFL proficiency scale). Several HWIS students also sat for the AP Chinese and Spanish tests this spring with results to be announced in July. This test is also a criterion for the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Here are HWIS recipients of this award thus far based on the Avant test.
Mandarin - Charles Doyle, Jack Perkins, Suri Wong, Mungo Prus-Shearer
Spanish - Jeremy Cuevas, Danielle Chuy
