My name is Sarah and I am in the Spanish program at HudsonWay Immersion School. Learning a language opens so many doors and removes barriers. It is an opportunity that I wish every child could have. It is something that is precious and can help you in so many ways in your future. There are 21 countries in which Spanish is the official language, and as of 2020, roughly 473 million people speak Spanish. Learning a language as an adult is a very tough undertaking. However, a child can pick up a language a little bit faster. Studies show that children can pick up a language easier because their brains work differently than adults. On the other hand, adults need to learn rules and words in a more structured way than children do. HudsonWay Immersion School teaches the language so seamlessly that with some hard work and dedication you are able to speak fluently.

Learning Spanish has benefited me so much. It has allowed me to connect with my mom’s family, in Colombia, in a way that I couldn’t have if I did not speak the language. Spanish has helped me learn about many other Hispanic cultures. HudsonWay has also allowed me to have an opportunity to have Mandarin classes three times a week. This has allowed me to learn the basics of the language, Chinese cultures and traditions. Having learned Spanish and some Mandarin at HudsonWay, in my future, I can continue working on Mandarin and possibly learn a third language!

I am a very lucky person to be able to be a part of the HudsonWay community. I’m sure that many doors have been opened for students here, like there has been for me. I would like to thank HudsonWay Immersion School for all it has done for me!
