Debate (Gr 4-8)

Our Debate Club is provided by “Dedimus Potestatem” (DP) and offers a scaled approach to Debate learning skills specifically for Middle school ages. DP has a history of starting and building Debate groups in schools and growing them to top competitors at Debate tournaments.

Their curriculum meets the Middle School student where they are in their Debate participation and builds skills that introduce collegiate concepts in a Middle school friendly environment. This class will build digital literacy and multimedia research skills, critical thinking and expanded perspectives, increase confidence, train students to listen effectively, and strengthen civic discourse. This class will also combine fun improvisation games, creative writing, and some theater exercises, helping beginner debaters learn the basics of advocacy, handle impromptu speaking opportunities, and write compelling speeches. Michael Feldheim our DP Debate instructor has many years of experience working with the Middle school age groups in private schools.

Note: Please do not enroll in this class if you require early pick up while the class is taking place. We will not be able to have staff leave other children to get a child from an enrichment class early.

Day: Mondays
Time: 3:05-4:05pm
Grades: 4-8th (The Debate League does not allow 4th graders to participate in the tournaments BUT they can attend and observe to know what is entailed to look forward to tournament competing in 5th grade)
Cost (Spring Semester): $780 for 13 classes
