Immerse your child in a language learning adventure while exploring different ecosystems and cultures from around the world!!

Preschool

HWIS Summer Camp is a great place for young children to spend their summer weeks. As children are immersed in Mandarin or Spanish, they will make friends and participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, learning about the Chinese and Spanish cultures. Supervised by our professional and talented staff, children will  gain an understanding and appreciation of different Chinese or Latin American cultures by taking part in a program that will include art, music, cooking, water play and many other hands-on activities.

Mandarin – Animal Exploration

Through self discovery and planned guidance from their teachers, children will learn about the Panda bears of China and explore connections between the bears of China and bears in the United States. In this theme, literacy will be emphasized. For example, a “classroom panda” may visit each camper’s home and parents would document the visit in a class memory book.

Spanish – Penguins and Sea Life on the rocky Coast of Argentina

In this unit we will explore life of animals that live along the rocky coast of La Patagonia.   How does weather and the land affect what animals can live in this open area?  What sea animals live here as compared to those we find in our area?

Mandarin – Waterworks

In China, like the United States, there are areas of the terrain that are desert while others flow with plentiful water.  There is no better time than summer to “dive” into a study about water.  During this study, the children will transform their classrooms into deserts and water-rich environments using a variety of materials. Additionally, they may use scientific inquiry in water experiments to explore evaporation and condensation.

Spanish – Wildlife on the Islands

The Galápagos Islands is considered one of the world’s foremost destinations for wildlife-viewing.  We will learn about tortoises:  where they live, what they eat and why they live so long!  We’ll also have fun making volcanos and 3D maps of the volcanic islands.

Using our five senses we will learn about Puerto Rico’s El Yunque rainforest.  El Yunque is a lush green forest with unusual birds and trees.  We will transform the classroom into a rainforest filled with unique insects, birds, trees and reptiles.

K & Up

This summer, campers at HWIS will travel to Mandarin or Spanish-speaking regions around the world engaging in science and culture oriented learning. Classrooms will transform into rainforests, deserts, and even the Silk Road!
