Placement and Assessment

HWIS After School programs follow the NCSSFL-ACTFL (National Council of State Supervisors for Languages–American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines to place children into the appropriate group (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and assess their progress in language learning.

Why theme-based learning?

Theme-based units are designed to effectively support individual learning of the target language. Themes such as describing oneself, families and communities allow students to focus on their immediate surroundings.

Learning the content of each theme is made possible by project-based learning. Themes are supported by interactive, hands-on activities designed to enable children of all levels to maximize language learning. By focusing on real-world content, HWIS After School students effectively build interpersonal communication, interpretive listening and interpretive reading skills.

Now enrolling for the 2017-2018 school year. Classes begin the week of September 11th.
