CoGAT

This chart shows a correlation between the number of years enrolled at HWIS and cognitive development. Note that 63% of students at HWIS for 4 or more years tested as gifted (100% were either gifted or above average) while 7% of students enrolled after 1 year were assessed as gifted. This supports the research which states that students enrolled in an immersion program gain enhanced cognitive benefits as a result.

Despite the fact that our students receive instruction in English for 20% of the day in kindergarten and 1st grade, when assessed in standardized testing in English, HWIS students outperform gifted and talented public school students and students from independent schools nationally.

Youth Chinese Test (YCT)

This chart shows the high proficiency level achieved by our grades 3-5 in the Mandarin program across both campuses. The YCT (youth Chinese test) is a standardized assessment for students learning Chinese as a second language. The level 4 test is the highest level and comprises reading and writing of over 600 characters.
