A Look Inside Our Spanish Immersion Elementary Classrooms

In Spanish language arts, we use Senderos: a language arts curriculum which complements Journeys, provided in English language arts. This curriculum is developed to meet core content standards.

In-class libraries feature leveled readers to support advancing students through various levels of independent reading. Students are assessed in their mastery of Math and Language Arts content in both languages.

Aside from time in Spanish and English language arts provided daily, students are immersed in Math, Science and Social Studies, all in Spanish, every other week, and in English on alternate weeks. Content is not repeated, but builds on that taught in prior weeks. In this way students become bilingual and biliterate.

Students are exposed to culture through stories, songs, and social studies content. All students perform plays, songs, and dance during a Spanish Winter Show which is held each year in December.
