After learning about Shakespeare, HWIS New York Elementary students were inspired and petitioned their teachers for help in performing a play. Teachers, encouraged by their students ambition and creativity, adapted a script and set aside time to rehearse. Finally on Wednesday, May 24th, the students performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. The Shakespearean language is difficult to memorize and recite for any elementary student, let alone one who spends the majority of the day learning in Mandarin. However, the students of HWIS were up for the task. They dressed in colorful costumes and graced the stage with confidence. An audience of 50 friends and family members gave the students a well-deserved standing ovation. Special thanks to Mindy Poon, Fran Laniado, and Casey Erin Clark for all their hard work.
